Kindergarten News  April 18 - 21

Phonics:  We will learn about digraph "th" and the sight word "they."  Have your child read           

           the Reading Practice word list every day.  Some students need to catch up on reading

           the Decodable Readers to me.  Have your child read these at home and bring them back

           when he/she can read them well.

Reading:  We will read This Is The Way We Go to School and talk about drawing conclusions               (using what we already know about somethng to understand a story).

Language:  We will learn to identify verbs, and review nouns

Math:  We will cover designs using basic shapes,

           compare shapes,

          use pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to pay for items

          play a game with dominoes to identify equal sets of objects

Science:  We will talk about life science - cells, plants, and animals

 

April 20 - Progress Reports  (Sign and return to school)

April 22 - Good Friday Holiday

April 25 - Kindergraduation Graduation Pictures.  Order forms will need to be turned in on this date.

April 27 - P.E. Program at 9:00 in the gym


         


 

Kindergarten News     March 21 - 25

We will be learning the following skills this week:

Phonics:  Long vowel sounds, Reading Practice 20, sight word "my"

Reading: Read  Messenger, Messenger, compare and contrast

Language:  Identify dates, question marks, and uppercase letters

Math:  Compare numbers through 10, identify left and right, explore tangram pieces,

           measure length using nonstandard units

Science:  The Universe, and the Atmosphere

 

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are Tuesday, March 22, from 3:00 to 6:30
  • Spring Picture orders are due Wednesday, April 6
  • SPRING BREAK:  March 28 - April 1

 

Kindergarten News                 March 7 - 11

Phonics:  We are learning about the letter "W" and the sight word "was."  Homework:  Reading Practice 18

Language:  We are learning to write questions.

Reading:  We are reading "Max Takes the Train" and learning about realism and fantasy stories.

Math:  We are practicing counting by fives, counting nickels, ordering numbers through ten, and                   identifying hot and cold objects.

Science:  We are continuing to learn about our 5 senses.

 

Our Spring Music program will be on March 14 at 1:30.  The songs will have a patriotic theme.  Please have your child dress in red, white, and blue.

Preschool and Kindergarten registration for the 2011 - 2012 school year will be on March 15.  Current Kindergarten students will not attend school on this day.   

Report cards will be sent home on March 16.      

February 28--March 4

Phonics:  Learn to write and say the sound of the letter X

               Read the sight word "love"

               Reading Practice # 17

Reading:  Read Abuela and discuss the setting of the story

               Vocabulary words:  abuela, adventure, flock, city, airport, harbor

Language and Handwriting:  Learn about the pronoun "I"

              Write sentences beginning with "I"        

Math:  Identify and count nickels

           Identify a cylinder

           Pay for items to 25 cents using nickels

           Create an ABC pattern

Science:  Learn about our 5 senses

 

We only have about 60 days left in this school year.  It is going by fast!!  Please help your child by talking to him/her about the work that they bring home each day.

Reading:  Read and discuss If You Could Go To Antarctica

              Classify and categorize animals

              Read high frequency words: go, here, from

Math:  Order objects by length

           Make an ABC pattern

           Act out addition and subtraction stories

           Estimate and measure the capacity of containers

Language:  Use uppercase letters and periods to write telling sentences

Science:  Discuss meaning of Presidents' Day

               Learn about our 5 senses

Our class will learn the following skills this week.   

Phonics:  Write and say the sound of the letter "V."

Reading:  Read Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and discuss the characters.

Language:  Identify telling sentences and write correct punctuation.

Math:  Identify seasons, compare temperatures, compare length of objects, name shapes, copy line segments and designs on a geoboard.

Science:  February is Dental Health Month.  We will talk about how to care for our teeth.  We will also begin to learn about our five senses.

  • Progress Reports will go home Monday.  Sign and return your child's report by Friday.
  • Valentine's Party will be Monday, February 14 at 1:30.

Week of January 31, 2011

Phonics: 

Continue to learn about the letter "y, and learn the sight word "you."   Begin to learn about the letter "d", and learn the sight word "said."


Reading:

Continue to read  My Lucky Day and discuss "cause and effect."   Begin the story One Little Mouse and learn about sequence.


Math: 

Identify capacity of containers, cover designs with pattern blocks, use linking cubes to represent numbers to 20, act out story problems, pay for items to $1.00 using dimes.


Language: 

Identify action parts and naming parts of sentences, and  identify complete sentences.


Social Studies: 

Read the Weekly Reader "Meet a Groundhog", learn that daily  routines make each day special, learn about family celebrations, and  recognize that things change over time.

 

 

**Valentine's Parties will be on Friday, February 11.
